University of South Carolina Football will host a weekend Coaching Clinic March 31-April 2 at the Zone in Williams-Brice Stadium. The clinic is open to all coaches from any level of football interested in learning more about the game and interacting with head coach Steve Spurrier and the Gamecock coaching staff.
The three-day event kicks off Thursday, March 31, with registration beginning at 6 p.m. Following dinner in the Zone, the South Carolina staff will hold a “Chalk Talk.”
A full schedule of events is set for Friday, April 1. During the morning session, Quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus will talk about the “One-Back Passing Game.” Running backs coach Jay Graham will then discuss the “Inside Zone Run Game.” Wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. will wrap up the morning session with a discussion on “Deep Balls/Blocking.”
Following lunch, discussions of defense and special teams will highlight the afternoon session. Assistant Head Coach – Defense, Ellis Johnson, will speak on “Linebacker Run Fits,” and defensive line coach Brad Lawing’s will talk about “Breaking Down Protection “& Implementing a Pass Rush Plan.” John Butler will wrap up the afternoon session discussing special teams play.
All coaches on hand will then get a first-hand look at the 2011 Gamecocks, as the team will work out on the practice fields late Friday afternoon.
Following dinner in the Zone, all attendees will be entertained by special guest speaker, Ralph Friedgen, the former head coach at the University of Maryland.
On Saturday morning, Craig Fitzgerald and the South Carolina Football Strength & Conditioning Staff will demonstrate some weight room tips and techniques. The clinic will wrap up with a scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium.
