University of South Carolina defensive end Devin Taylor and tailback Marcus Lattimore have been recognized as SEC Players of the Week for their efforts in the Gamecocks’ 38-24 win over Tennessee on Saturday.
Taylor, a 6-7, 249-pound sophomore from Beaufort, S.C., was named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after he returned a 24-yard interception for a touchdown and also recovered a pair of fumbles in Saturday’s win over the Volunteers.
Lattimore, a 6-0, 218-pounder from Duncan, S.C., earned a share of the SEC Freshman of the Week honors after rushing for a career-high 184 yards on 29 carries with one touchdown. He also caught two passes for 26 yards. 82 of the 184 yards came in the deciding fourth quarter after the game was tied at 24. He had a long run of 40 yards and also had a 34-yard burst. His touchdown run was his 13th TD of the season, tying the South Carolina record for freshmen, set by Sidney Rice in 2005. Lattimore has scored a touchdown in every game in which he has played this season.
It’s the second time this season that Lattimore has been selected as the SEC Freshman of the Week. He also earned that honor after the win over Georgia in week 2 and capture co-Offense Player of the Week accolades as well.
No. 18/17 South Carolina (6-2, 4-2 SEC) will host the No. 17/19 Arkansas Razorbacks (6-2, 3-2 SEC) on Saturday, November 6 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN with Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge in the booth and Holly Rowe on the sidelines.
