University of South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is one of 51 players named to the preseason watch list for the 2010 Biletnikoff Award, it was announced today.

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., the creator and sponsor of the Biletnikoff Award, presents its trophy annual to the nation’s outstanding college football receiver.

Jeffery, a 6-4, 233-pound sophomore, looks to build upon an outstanding rookie campaign in which he earned consensus Freshman All-America honors. He is a preseason second-team All-SEC pick by the league’s 12 coaches and is a preseason third-team All-SEC selection by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.

Jeffery played in all 13 games during the 2009 season, starting the final seven. He led the squad with 46 catches for 763 yards, an average of 16.6 yards per catch. He was second on the team with six touchdowns. He averaged 58.7 yards and 3.54 catches per game, the eighth and 10th best marks respectively in the SEC, and was the only freshman in the top 10 in either category. In addition, he logged three 100-yard receiving games.

The award is named for Fred Biletnikoff, the Florida State University All-America receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer. The award has been given out since 1994. Last year’s winner was Golden Tate of Notre Dame.

The winner of the 17th Biletnikoff Award will be announced as part of ESPN’s College Football Awards Show on Thursday, December 9. The award will be officially presented to the winner at the annual Biletnikoff Award dinner, hosted by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club, on Saturday, February 11, 2011.
