University of South Carolina sophomore Alshon Jeffery has been named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation’s top wide receiver, it was announced today.
Jeffery, a 6-4, 233-pounder from St. Matthews, S.C., leads the SEC with 70 receptions and with 1,210 receiving yards, averaging 110.0 yards per game. He is fifth in the NCAA in receiving yards per game and his 1,210 receiving yards is a school record.
“Alshon is certainly deserving,” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “He has had an excellent year. He is an outstanding player and an outstanding practice player. He is also a very good teammate. We couldn’t be happier for him.”
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation’s top college receiver. The next vote for the winner will take place November 29 and close on December 5. The winner of the Biletnikoff Award will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards show, live on Thursday, December 9 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
