ESPN’s popular College GameDay presented by The Home Depot will be coming to Columbia this weekend, it was announced today.
The live three-hour show, which features Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Erin Andrews, will be aired nationally beginning at 9 a.m. ET, Saturday, Oct. 9, on ESPNU with the final two hours on ESPN. The exact location of the show will be determined later this week.
The South Carolina Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) will host the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0, 2-0 SEC) at Williams-Brice Stadium later Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on CBS with Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Tracy Wolfson describing the action.
The Gamecocks are ranked 19th in this week’s Associated Press poll and 20th in the latest USA TODAY/Coaches poll. Alabama is ranked No. 1 in the country in both polls.
This will mark the fifth time that GameDay will visit the South Carolina campus. The first visit came in November of 2001 for the USC-Florida game. They were on hand again in September of 2004 for the Carolina-Georgia contest. They returned for the first game of the Steve Spurrier Era when the Gamecocks hosted Central Florida on Aug. 31, 2005. Most recently, they were here in October of 2006 when Carolina hosted Tennessee.
