Garris Gonce and Drew Meyer drove in four runs apiece Saturday and Landon Powell had four hits, tying a school record with three doubles, as South Carolina routed Charleston Southern 19-1 in college baseball.

The Gamecocks improved to 2-0 while Charleston Southern dropped to 0-4. The final game of the three game series is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Sunday at Sarge Frye Field.

Gary Bell, 1-0, allowed one hit and the lone Charleston Southern run in five innings of work to earn the win. Ian Holmen, 0-1, took the loss.

South Carolina sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits and two Buccaneer errors. The Gamecocks also batted around in the third and fourth innings, scoring five runs in the third and three in the fourth.

The big hit in the first inning was a three run home run by Gonce, who also drove in a run in the fourth inning. Powell doubled in the first, third and fourth innings and hit a two run homer in the eighth. He scored five runs. Meyer had two hits in the eight run first inning with one RBI. He drove in a run with a ground out in the third, another with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and another with a hit in the fifth inning.

Trey Dyson had three runs batted in. He doubled in one in the first inning and drove in two with a single in the third. Jon Coutlangus also had two RBI for the Gamecocks.

Coutlangus, Justin Harris, Dyson, Gonce and Steve Thomas each contributed two hits to a 20 hit South Carolina attack.

Charleston Southern managed six hits off four South Carolina pitchers. The lone Buccaneer run scored in the third inning. Mario Suarez led off with a double, his first hit in 12 at bats this season. Brian Richardson struck out but reached on a wild pitch as Suarez moved to third base. He scored on a squeeze bunt by William Dalton.
