Raleigh, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team improved to 6-1 on the year with a dominant 7-0 shutout win over host N.C. State Saturday afternoon at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex.
With the loss, N.C. State falls to 3-4 while the Gamecocks claimed their second consecutive victory and their first shutout of the season.
USC earned the doubles point with wins in all three matches to get the day started. N.C. State did manage to stay close early on, but Carolina pulled away in the later stages of each match to claim the three wins. Jennifer Radman and Kathy Boyanovich won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles over State’s Gildemeister/Nicholls duo. Other doubles winners for USC were the team of Lynn-Yin Tan and Jodi Kenoyer (defeated Jassawalla/Bawono, 8-6) and Katarina Markovski and Ayako Suzuki (defeated Worsley/Strader, 8-5).
Carolina’s solid play continued into singles action as the Gamecocks took each of the six matches in straight sets. Winners for USC were: Jennifer Radman (def. Katrina Gildemeister 6-4, 6-4), Kathy Boyanovich (def. Kristen Nicholls 6-1, 6-2), Jodi Kenoyer (def. Myrna Bawono 6-4, 6-3), Lynn-Yin Tan (def. Loni Worsley 6-1, 6-4), Tamara Sutton (def. Jennifer Jassawalla 7-5, 6-2) and Ayako Suzuki (def. Danielle Staddelmann 6-2, 6-1).
