LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 22nd-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team gave 11th-ranked Kentucky all it could handle Sunday but came up just one match short in a 4-3 loss to the Wildcats in an SEC Eastern Division battle in Lexington.

USC falls to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the SEC.

Despite a huge win for the USC No. 1 doubles team of Jennifer Radman and Kathy Boyanovich, who defeated the 4th-ranked team of Sarah Witten and Carolina Mayorga 8-5, the Gamecocks lost the doubles point for just the second time all season.

Trailing 1-0, USC took three of the six singles matches, coming up just one win shy of registering the upset win. Katarina Markovski scored an upset win at No. 1 singles for USC, beating 26th-ranked Carolina Mayorga 6-3, 6-2. Jennifer Radman likewise recored a big win at No. 2 singles, toppling 41st-ranked Sarah Witten in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.

After a USC win at No. 5 singles by Jodi Kenoyer (defeated Jill Buckley 6-3, 6-3), USC had a chance for a come-from-beind match win at No. 3 singles, but Kathy Boyanovich dropped a heartbreaking, three set match to 97th-ranked Lauren Rookledge 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

USC is back in action Saturday afternoon when they host 25th-ranked VCU at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center. VCU enters the match red-hot, having upset No. 1 Georgia last week.
