COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 22nd-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team was upset Saturday afternoon by visiting Georgia Tech 4-2 in a non-conference match at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center on the USC campus.

Carolina (4-1) falls for the first time on the season while the 37th-ranked Ramblin’ Wreck improves to 5-1 after their second straight win over a Top 25 team.

Carolina again jumped out of the gates very quickly, winning the doubles point for the fifth time in as many tries this season. USC won all three matches to claim an early 1-0 lead in the match. Doubles scores were: 26th-ranked Jennifer Radman/Kathy Boyanovich (USC) defeated Morris/Grant (GT) 8-4, 36th-ranked Tan/ Kenoyer (USC) defeated Wong/Ozolins (GT) 8-6 and Markovski/Brown (USC) defeated M. Miller/Gunn (GT) 8-6* in a point-clinching win.

The Jackets turned the momentum in singles action, winning four of five completed matches. The lone winner for the Gamecocks was Lynn-Yin Tan, who beat Mason Miller 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot. Carolina dropped the No. 1 match in a three-set thriller that saw Tech’s Mysti Morris prevail over 71st-ranked Jennifer Radman 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(2).

Katarina Markovski split two sets with 76th-ranked Jamie Wong of Tech at the No. 2 spot before that match was halted following the Jackets’ clinching of the match.

South Carolina returns to action Monday when they host Harvard at 1 p.m.
