Columbia, S.C. – After firing a three-round total of 920, the South Carolina men’s golf team concluded the Cleveland Golf Kiawah Island Invitational in a three-way tie. Along with South Carolina, Maryland and LSU finished 13th.
Host College of Charleston won the event for the second straight year after blasting 879. Mississippi was eight strokes back in second place, followed by Virginia Tech. Cougar Bruce McDonald won the individual title with a two-under-par 214.
Martin Rominger continued to lead the way for the Gamecocks in Tuesday’s action after shooting 221 to finish 10th. This marked Rominger’s fifth collegiate top ten finish, first of the 2002-03 season. Finishing in 42nd place was newcomer Eirik Johansen who tallied 232.
Aiken, S.C. native, Alex Hamilton, posted 233 while Scott Feaster shot 236. Closing out the five-man squad is Jake Thompson who finished 69th with a score of 240.
Nash Elliot, posting 233, competed as an individual for USC and earned a 31st place finish.
The Gamecocks head to Johnson City, Tenn. for the Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate on Sept. 14-15. Last season Nash Elliot carried the team with a sixth place finish and elevated South Carolina to a fourth place team finish in the prestigious tournament.
