The South Carolina Gamecocks (3-2/1-1 SEC) return to Williams-Brice Stadium to play host to SEC Western Division rival Mississippi State (1-3/0-2 SEC) Saturday, Oct. 5 in a Homecoming contest that will kick off at 1 p.m. There will be no live television, however, the game will be shown as a replay on Wednesday, Oct. 9 as part of ComCast Sports’ arrangement with USC.

A Closer Look

* South Carolina has won two straight games, the most recent being a 20-14 triumph over Vanderbilt Sept. 28 in Nashville. Saturday’s game will be USC’s fourth home contest of the season, with two home games remaining (vs. Tennessee Nov. 2 and vs. Arkansas Nov. 9). The Gamecocks opened the 2002 campaign with a 34-24 victory at home over New Mexico State. Mississippi State has lost two in a row, the latest defeat being a 31-13 loss at LSU on Sept. 28. The Bulldogs opened their season at nationally ranked Oregon, dropping a 36-13 decision. MSU then defeated Jacksonville State 51-13 at Starkville, before dropping its SEC opener, 42-14 on Sept. 19 at home against Auburn.

* USC claimed its first SEC victory of the season last Saturday night with a 20-14 win over Vanderbilt in Nashville. The Gamecocks relied on a dominating fourth quarter to post the win. Carolina outgained Vanderbilt 130-19 in total offense over the last period and controlled the football 12 of the final 15 minutes of the game.
