Columbia – Melissa Hutson scored her second goal of the season as South Carolina tied its second consecutive match vs. Auburn, 1-1 on Friday evening. Carolina is 10-5-2 on the year with a 3-3-2 record in the SEC. Auburn is now 13-3-1 and 5-1-1 in the SEC. South Carolina will conclude SEC competition at 2 p.m. ET at Alabama.

The Tigers broke open the scoring at 26:35 as AU midfielder Jenny Zarzour won a through ball vs. keeper Elise Matthews to give Auburn a 1-0 lead. Sara Power and Jessie Allan each assisted on the Tiger goal. Carolina almost broke through before the end of the first period with a goal as Melinda Carter’s direct kick curled past the Tiger wall before Auburn goalkeeper Megan Rivera made the save.

Carolina knotted the match at one midway in the second period of play. Junior midfielder Melissa Hutson drove a shot from 20 yards out over the head of Rivera to even the match at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. Hutson’s’ goal was her second of the season. This evening’s match marks Carolina’s fifth in overtime this season, including the third consecutive match in overtime on Friday night. USC is 1-2-2 in overtime this year.
