Feb. 4, 2003

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team is preparing for its upcoming 2003 spring season, which features six tournaments plus a possible invitation to the NCAA Championships.

The Lady Gamecocks will begin the season February 28th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Humacao, Puerto Rico. They’ll follow up the tropical journey by hosting the Lady Gamecock Classic at the University Club in Blythewood, S.C. The Lady Gamecocks will also play in the Bryan National Collegiate, the Liz Murphey Collegiate, and the SEC Championships, where the Lady Gamecocks will defend their title. South Carolina will look to receive another NCAA berth.

South Carolina will be led by Senior All-American and two-time defending SEC Champion Kristy McPherson. McPherson is coming off another impressive fall season, which included two Top Five finishes and a team-leading 73.75 stroke average. McPherson will look to capture a third straight SEC Champion ship and lead the team to its second straight team championship.

McPherson is joined by a range of talent from seniors to freshmen. Senior Kacy Thompson will look to regain her momentum from last year to close out her career at Carolina. A strong junior class of Adrienne Gautreaux, Marci Robinson, and Kory Thompson look to provide low scores consistently for more team wins.

The underclassman will look to add depth to the Lady Gamecock squad. Sophomore Tiffany Catafygiotu is ready to contribute in a big way in the spring. Freshman Erica Battle already saw action in three tournaments in the fall and looks to continue her good start in the spring. Freshman Megan Miller continues to improve and will also look to see action this season.
