LADY GAMECOCKS NINTH AFTER SECOND DAY AT LIZ MURPHEY COLLEGIATE CLASSIC

The 14th-ranked South Carolina Lady Gamecocks sit in ninth place after two rounds at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia. On Saturday, South Carolina shot a 305 as a team to add with their 299 from Friday. The Gamecocks are ninth but only 11 strokes behind the third-place squads. Florida and Duke continue to lead as the two schools are still tied for first.

Sophomore Tiffany Catafygiotu continues to be the bright spot for the Gamecocks as the native of Greer, South Carolina is tied for third place after two rounds of golf. On Saturday, Catafygiotu shot a 73 to put her even for the tournament after carding a career low round of 71 to open the tournament on Friday.

“We just gave some shots back out there today,” said USC head coach Kristi Coggins. “We weren’t too consistent from hole to hole and had to fight for everything today. We’ll come out tomorrow and continue with our game plan of playing aggressively and playing to targets. There are eight teams bunched just a few strokes ahead of us so we’re still within striking distance.”

Senior Kacy Thompson shot a 75 today to put her in a tie for 31st place. Marci Robinson is tied for 43 after posting 79 today. Adrienne Gautreaux carded a 78 to move her to a tie for 56th. Kory Thompson is tied for 67th after shooting 82 in the second round. Competing as an individual, Erica Battle is tied for 87th after firing an 84 Saturday.

South Carolina will look to rebound on Sunday in the final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic as tee times start at 9:00 a.m.
