Durham, N.C. – Kelly McCain and Katie Granson each registered victories in singles and doubles on Saturday to guide the third-ranked and third-seeded Duke women’s tennis team to a 4-0 victory over 52nd-ranked South Carolina (14-11) at the Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils will next travel to the Sweet 16 in Gainesville, Fla. and will face 10th-ranked William & Mary on May 15 while the loss ends the 2003 season for the Gamecocks.
Duke won doubles by taking both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions by a score of 8-4 each. The 14th-ranked tandem of McCain and Hillary Adams downed Danielle Wiggins and Magda Wojdylo, while the 60th-ranked duo of Granson and Julia Smith defeated Catherine Brown and Audrey George.
The Blue Devils grabbed a 2-0 advantage as 19th-ranked Amanda Johnson defeated Jodi Kenoyer in (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 2 position. Then, Duke received victories by second-ranked McCain and Granson at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions, respectively. McCain knocked off Kathy Boyanovich, 6-2, 6-3, and Granson battled for a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Justine Walsh.
