Columbia, S.C. – Notes and quotes from USC football camp: Here are excerpts from Assistant Head Coach Skip Holtz’s post-practice media briefing on Wednesday: “We had a good practice today. We worked a lot on the passing game. Ole Miss does a lot of different things with their coverages that can confuse an offense. We have a lot of work to do in final preparations before the game … Defensively, Ole Miss’ statistics are misleading. They have played really well on defense the past few games. Sometimes, their offense scores so quick that their defense has to get back on the field sooner than they might like to. I know their defense really shut down Arkansas last week, especially in the second half. At times, they may have the mentality of ‘we’re going to give the ball back to our offense just as soon as we can.’ Their defense is similar to what Virginia Tech likes to do and we know what Virginia Tech has done the past several years. They like to mix up their coverages … We’ll be playing on a different surface (Astro Play turf). I think Arkansas had some problems adjusting to it. We haven’t played on something like that before. I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s going to be like. I hear Ole Miss has done a super job with their facilities and building a great atmosphere at their games. We’re anxious to get down there.”

Injury update: DL Jason Capers (low back) returned to practice; TB Demetris Summers (elbow) is practicing; LB Marcus Lawrence (low back) returned to practice; QB Dondrial Pinkins (bruised shoulder) was limited; S Rod Wilson (ankle) did not practice and is doubtful for Saturday.

What’s next: South Carolina travels to Oxford to meet #20 Ole Miss this Saturday with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.(eastern time). The game will be televised by the Jefferson Pilot Sports network as the SEC Game of the Week. USC is expected to take more than 3,500 fans to the game.

On Thursday – Head coach Lou Holtz will be available to the media following Thursday’s practice at approximately 6 p.m. in the press room behind the lobby of the football building.
