Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis team opened up the 2003 Southern Intercollegiate Tournament in style on Friday by winning 13 of 14 singles matches and all six of their double matches. USC had all 10 players on their roster compete in Friday’s action.

In singles, Danielle Wiggins posted a 6-1,6-0 win over UNCC’s Swaim. Christyn Lucas and Laura Ganzer both competed in the A2 singles draw and both advanced to the semifinals on Saturday at 12pm. Ganzer defeated East Tennessee State’s Aldea 6-0,6-1 while defeating Georgia Tech’s Silverio 6-3,6-0. Lucas was victorious in the first round by winning a 6-1,6-0 match over Wofford’s Rogers and then advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4,7-5 win over Whitney Malina of College of Charleston. Day two of the Southern Intercollegiate begins on Saturday morning starting with doubles at 8am at three sites: Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center, Sam Daniels Tennis Center, and Columbia Tennis Center.
