Columbia, S.C. – After taking 13 of 14 matches on day one, the Gamecocks still managed to keep rolling despite dropping a few more matches in tournament play. USC heads into day three of the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament with three double teams and five individuals fighting for their flight championship.
In doubles, Christyn Lucas and Magda Wojdylo will face Emmrich and Grage of Armstrong Atlantic State in the A2 doubles final while Miranda Gutierrez and Ayako Suzuki will battle for the title in the B1 draw. Audrey George and Justine Walsh will play Friedman and Robey of UNCC in the C1 final.
In singles, Danielle Wiggins will face Golopencza of Armstrong Atlantic State. Wiggins advanced to the A1 singles final on Sunday by defeating Georgia Tech’s Shosho 6-1,6-3.
Christyn Lucas, a freshman from Miami, will compete in the A2 final as she will face Takahaski of Winthrop at 11am. Lucas defeated Georgia Tech’s Anson in three sets: 6-3,2-6,6-3 while Takahaski advanced to the final by winning after Laura Ganzer retired in the second set.
Justine Walsh, Ayako Suzuki, and Grace Blakely will also play in their flight championship tomorrow at 11am. The Southern Intercollegiate Tournament will begin with doubles at 8am on Sunday morning and follow with back draw single matches at 9:30. Main draw matches will be around 11:30 at all three sites: Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center, Sam Daniel Tennis Center, and Columbia Tennis Center.
