Athens, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Swimming and Diving teams finished up the second day of competition in Athens, Ga. after prelims were cancelled this morning. The women are currently in 4th place and the men are in 6th place.

For the women, Heather Skaggs stood out in the 100 yard butterfly with an NCAA “B” qualifying time of 54.54. She came in 9th in the event just ahead of Carolynn McHugh who had a time of 55.17 and placed 14th. This time was also an NCAA “B” qualifying time. The womens 400 yard freestyle relay team comprised of Heather Skaggs, Jennifer Van Assen, Carolynn McHugh, and Ashleigh Bastak finished 4th with a time of 3:19.95. Diver Allison Brennan finished 4th on the 3 meter.

On the men’s side, Diver Andy Bradley finished 3rd on the 1 meter after finishing 3rd yesterday on the 3 meter. Diver Dean Emmerton also had a good outing coming in 8th place. Justin Kata had a personal best in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.77. Lir Derieg also had a personal best in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 49.38. The men’s 400 yard relay team set a new personal best with a time of 3:01.39 comprised of Ed Murphy, Tamas Bathazi, Tamas Szucs, and Reid Duff.

The team returns to the pool tomorrow at 10:30 am for prelims.
