It was a battle of the “Carolina’s” Saturday at the second round of the Lady Gamecock Classic as North Carolina came from five shots back of South Carolina to take the lead after two rounds of golf at the par 72, 5,996-yard University Club in Blythewood, South Carolina. The Tar Heels shot a 302 Saturday for a two-day total of 605 (+29) while the Gamecocks are only two behind UNC with a 607 (+31). USC shot a 309 Saturday after opening with a first-round 298. Twelve shots separate number two South Carolina and the third-place Texas Longhorns.

South Carolina and North Carolina both have three golfers in the top 10 with Tar Heel Ashley Prange leading the pack for the second consecutive day with a one-over-par 145. Gamecock Adrienne Gautreaux is tied for second place with UNC’s Katie Miller as the duo are three-over-par (147). Erica Battle is fifth at 150 (+6) with teammate Jenna Pearson tied for sixth place just one stroke back (151, +7). Tiffany Catafygiotu is tied for 28th with a 159 (+15). Kory Thompson is tied for 52nd place with a 23-over-par 167.

In addition to its team of five, South Carolina also entered three individuals in the tournament. Laura McCaslin, is tied for 36th place with a 161 (+17). Marci Robinson is tied for 44th place with a 20-over-par 164 while Megan Miller is tied for 49th place with a two-day total of 166 (+22).

Last year, senior Kacy Thompson captured the individual title to become only the third USC golfer in 21 years to capture the medalist award. Wake Forest was the team champion of the rain-shortened event.

South Carolina returns to the course Sunday at 9:00 a.m. for the shotgun start of the final round.
