Going into the NCAA’s on Thursday, Head Coach Don Gibb stated that he wanted the team to finish in the top 20. On the third and final day of the NCAA Championships at Texas A&M, the Gamecocks finished in 11th place with a total of 120.5 points led by Jennifer Van Assen and Heather Skaggs.
Jennifer Van Assen, who took home second last night in the 200 Meter Freestyle, finished second in the 100 Meter Freestyle tonight with a time of 54.38 finishing closely behind Georgia’s Kara Lynn Joyce who set a new NCAA record in the event tonight. Van Assen was also a member of the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay team along with Carolynn McHugh, Heather Skaggs, and Ashleigh Bastak that came in 11th place with a time of 3:41.95. Skaggs also competed in the consolations for the 100 Meter Freestyle event in which she finished 16th overall.
The defending Champions from Auburn took home first place with SEC teams Georgia and Florida also finishing in the top 10.
