BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior South Carolina outfielder Nancy Crane was named the Southeastern Conference’s player of the week Monday for the week ending March 21. Crane batted .636 and went 5-for-11 for the week in USC’s three-game sweep of Arkansas. This marks the first player of the week honor for Crane and it is the second for the Gamecocks this season.

The Stuart, Fla. native played pivotal roles in the Gamecocks victories last week. Crane led off the eighth inning with a single and scored the winning run in USC’s 2-1 victory. In game three on Sunday, she drove in four of the Gamecocks’ six runs, including the tying and winning runs in their come-from-behind rally in the seventh inning. Crane recorded a hit in each game and posted five RBI’s in 11 plate appearances.

For the season, Crane leads the team in hitting with a .377 average and 29 hits. She is second in scoring runs with 14.

Samantha Jennings received player of the week honors back in February. For the program, it is Carolina’s sixth player of the week honor. Last year, USC earned three pitcher of the week honors.
