Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis fell 4-3 to No. 28 Tennessee on Friday afternoon at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Facility in Columbia. The loss dropped USC to 10-6 overall and to 3-4 in the SEC while the Lady Vols improved to 12-9 and to 6-1 in the SEC.

The Gamecocks took the doubles point by taking two of the three double matches. At number three doubles, Magda Wojdylo and Ayako Suzuki defeated Breanna Kray and Majen Immink 8-6. The Lady Vols would even it at one doubles match a piece when Sabita Maharaj and Ashley Robards defeated Christyn Lucas and Fallon Koon 8-5 at flight two. Carolina would clinch the doubles point at the number one position.

The doubles tandem of Danielle Wiggins and Laura Ganzer upset the 39th ranked pair of Tammy Encina and Melissa Schuab 9-7. Ganzer and Wiggins had trailed the entire match until going up 7-6. The win for Ganzer and Wiggins is the second of the season against a ranked opponent.

In singles, the Lady Vols would rally to take four of the six singles matches to clinch the victory. The Gamecocks were only able to pick up wins at number one and six singles. Danielle Wiggins, ranked 73rd in the country, upset the 27th ranked Tammy Encina at number one singles 6-0,6-1 while Justine Walsh defeated Breanna Kray 6-4,6-1.

Carolina returns to action on Sunday when they host No. 4 Georgia at 1pm.
