Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s tennis fell 5-2 to No. 4 Georgia on Sunday afternoon at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Facility in Columbia. The loss dropped USC to 10-7 overall and to 3-5 in the SEC while the Bulldogs improved to 15-2 and to 7-1 in the SEC.

The Bulldogs took the doubles point by sweeping the three doubles matches. The fifth ranked doubles team in the nation, Agata Cioroch and Shadisha Robinson defeated South Carolina’s Laura Ganzer and Danielle Wiggins 8-3 to clinch the point. At number two doubles, Christyn Lucas and Fallon Koon came up short against the 43rd ranked doubles team of Jitka Schonfeldova and Evgenia Subbotina, 8-6. Magda Wojdylo and Ayako Suzuki fell 8-2 to Douglas Wink and Natalie Frazier at three doubles.

In singles, the Gamecocks could only manage to take two of the six single matches. Danielle Wiggins, ranked 73rd in the country upset No. 5 Agata Cioroch 6-2,6-1 at number one singles while freshman Christyn Lucas defeated 54th ranked Evgenia Subbotina 6-1,6-7(3),1-0(6) at number two singles. Laura Ganzer forced a third set against No. 12 Shadisha Robinson but dropped the final stanza 6-1.

Carolina returns to action on Friday when they travel to face Mississippi at 5pm.
