Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolian women’s tennis team dropped the doubles point on Wednesday against No. 46 Marshall but picked up five single matches to clinch a 5-2 win at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Facility. The win improved South Carolina to 13-7 on the season while the Thundering Herd dropped to 15-4. The win also was Carolina’s third in a row and it ended Marshall’s seven match winning streak.

In doubles, Magda Wojdylo and Ayako Suzuki picked up Carolina’s only win with an 8-5 win over Danielle Hock and Megan Skalsky at number three doubles. Alice Sukner and Lille Nzduie defeated Carolina’s Fallon Koon and Christyn Lucas at number two doubles 8-5. The Thundering Herd would clinch the match at number one doubles where the 28th ranked pair of Jessica Johnson and Ashley Croh would win 9-8(5) over Danielle Wiggins and Laura Ganzer.

For the second match in a row, the Gamecocks would lose the doubles point but pick up at least four single matches to get the win. Fallon Koon evened the match up at one point a piece by winning 6-3,6-2 at number five singles over Joelle Good. Justine Walsh gave the Gamecocks a 2-1 lead after defeating Danielle Hock 6-1,6-1 at number six singles. The match would be tied up again after Ashley Croh defeated Laura Ganzer 6-3,6-2 at flight three. Danielle Wiggins took her sixth match in a row with a 6-3,6-2 win over Jessica Johnson at number one singles. Christyn Lucas would clinch the match for Carolina with a 7-5,7-5 win over Alice Sukner at position two. The final win for Carolina would come at number four singles where Magda Wojdylo won 6-4,7-5 and made the final score 5-2.

The Gamecocks return to action on Sunday, April 11 when they host No. 2 Florida at 1pm.
