Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina baseball team remains ranked No. 6 in the nation by Baseball America, following last weekend’s series victory over Florida. South Carolina won two of three games vs. the Gators and are now 25-7 on the year with a 6-6 record in the SEC.
USC heads back to the diamond on Wednesday night as the Gamecocks host Clemson in the final regular season contest between both schools this season. South Carolina leads the series this year 2-1, including a 5-2 victory over the Tigers in the last game played between each team in Columbia on March 6.

SOUTH CAROLINA BASEBALL NOTEBOOK
LOOKING BACK AT FLORIDA SERIES
South Carolina won its second consecutive series in the SEC taking two of three vs. Florida … South Carolina has now won five consecutive series vs. the Gators and have won 10 of the last 15 regular season contests vs. Florida … All three games vs. Florida this weekend were decided by one run, including two games that went into extra innings, both won by South Carolina … The Gamecocks are now 3-1 this season in extra inning games.
HEMPY HOLDS THEM DOWN
Freshman LHP Arik Hempy won both extra inning games vs. Florida out of the bullpen for USC … Hempy hurled four 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and just one hit while striking out six batters … Hempy’s win on Friday was his first career victory at South Carolina … On the season, Hempy has thrown 19 1/3 innings and has a 2-1 record with a 2.33 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
AT THE PLATE
The South Carolina offense belted out seven home runs on the week and now own 61 on the year with a team batting average of .337.
WINN-ING EFFORT
Junior OF Brendan Winn (Indian Harbour, Fla. native) batted 7-for-13 (.538) in the Florida series with two doubles, two HR and nine RBI … In Friday’s win vs. the Gators, Winn hit a three-run HR and in Sunday’s victory Winn tied the game with a three-run HR and hit a game-winning RBI single to cinch the 7-6 win.
POWELL CONTINUES TO SUCCEED
Senior catcher Landon Powell was named to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List on Wednesday … Powell hit a game-winning HR for South Carolina in USC’s 5-4 win on Friday vs. Florida … Powell had two HR on the series and has 34 on his career at South Carolina, tied for ninth on the USC All-Time List … Powell is batting .383 this season with nine HR and 40 RBI as well as 10 doubles.
CAMPBELL TIES ANOTHER RECORD
Sophomore outfielder Michael Campbell tied a USC single game record for triples with two in Saturday’s 9-8 loss vs. Florida; Campbell became the 12th player in USC history to accomplish the feat … Campbell also hit his 11th HR of the season this week and is batting .331 with 39 RBI … Two weeks ago Campbell tied the USC single game record for home runs with three in a win at Wofford.
GREGG LEADS THE WAY FOR USC
Sophomore OF Davy Gregg is leading South Carolina in hitting with a .418 batting average … Gregg currently owns a 10-game hitting streak, the longest in his career and tied for third longest by a USC player this season.
