The University of South Carolina women’s golf team jumped up one spot to seventh place Saturday in second-round action at the 2004 SEC Championships, which are being held at the par 72, 6300-yard University Club course in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. South Carolina shot a 300 Saturday for a two-day total of 603. The 12 SEC teams return to the course Sunday for the final 18 holes.

Vanderbilt overtook first round leader Auburn Saturday as the Commodores fired a three-over par 291 and lead the Tigers by one stroke, 586 to 587. Tennessee is in third place only one stroke behind Auburn at 588. Vanderbilt’s May Wood is the overall individual leader after two rounds as Wood jumped from sixth to first with the help of a five-under par 67 in Saturday’s second round.

Team captain Adrienne Gautreaux leads all Gamecock golfers as the senior sits in a tie for 18th place with a 149. Senior Marci Robinson is only one stroke back with a two-day total of 150 and is tied for 24th place. Freshman Jenna Pearson is tied for 30th with a 151 with sophomore Erica Battle holds a share of 37th place at 153 over the two rounds. Senior Kory Thompson is 53rd with a 159.

The Gamecocks begin teeing off Saturday at 9:20 a.m. (Central Time) on hole 10. USC is paired with Alabama and Arkansas in the final round.
