Columbia, S.C. –
The South Carolina football team took the field for its final practice before heading to Nashville for its season opener against Vanderbilt, which is set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

***Tickets still remain for Saturday’s contest, and those interested in attending should contact the Vanderbilt ticket office at 615-322-GOLD (4653).

Following are quotes from Lou Holtz following Thursday’s practice:
Regarding the running back rotation:

“I’m not sure if they will all play. Right now we have a flock of running backs, but as things go on and they get pounded on, we’ll be glad for this. Our running backs are really becoming football players. They’re not just backs. They’re really becoming football players.”

Regarding the state of the team:
“I have really enjoyed coaching this team and I’m looking forward to seeing this team play on Saturday. I feel good that we’ll play well. We have been treating practice like it is a game, and now it is critical that we do in the game what we have done in practice.”

Regarding The Season Opener:
“Every opening game is intriguing There are a lot of new players and we are going to be looking to see how well they do the little things. I am pleased with this football team. I just tell them to play like they practice.”
