COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Saturday marks the third anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States of America – 9/11 – and the University of South Carolina, in cooperation with the University of Georgia will remember this day at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday.
The following is being done:
- 40,000 American hand-flags will be given out at the gates of Williams-Brice Stadium as fans enter the stadium.
- In a pre-game salute on the field USC will welcome the following special guests who were there that fateful day September 11th, 2001,- Ladder Company 112 of the New York City Fire Department: Fire Fighter Tom Prin, Fire Fighter Ira Thorner, Fire Fighter Pat Ward, and Chief John Rokee. The pre-game salute will also include a moment of silence.
- Near the conclusion of halftime, the USC and UGA bands will join together to play a patriotic medley to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, their friends and families as well as those brave men and women of the United States Armed forces who are fighting the War on Terror in Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout the world.
