Columbia, SC –
The following are opening comments from Lou Holtz at the Monday, September 20th press conference:
-“The injury situation: George Gause will miss a day or two of practice with his knee. He should be ok by Saturday. Darrell Shropshire and Jonathan Alson won’t practice today. Darrell dislocated his finger and needed stitches in it. He could be ok by Saturday, but we won’t know for a day or two. Jonathan Alston is a little sore. He won’t be able to practice today. Dondrial Pinkins has limited reps according to the training report. That’s the injury situation.”
-“I thought that last week we did some awful good things. We did some things we have to improve. But looking at the first three games offensively, I think we have to be able to run the ball with more consistency. Now, let’s give the defense a lot of credit, but we just don’t run the ball with the consistency that we need to. The other thing we don’t do, I know we’ve got to do a better job with protecting our passer. We’ve had four sacs in three games… It’s the amount of pressure the quarterback receives during the course of the football game that always concerns you.”
-“Our productively offensively is much greater than the number of points that we’re scoring. We should be scoring more points for the amount of yardage we’re getting each week.”
