Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out in full pads Tuesday afternoon as preparations continued for their game against Troy University this Saturday, Sept. 25 at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff for the contest is 7:03 p.m. The game will be televised on a pay-per-view basis in the state of South Carolina. Contact your local cable companies to order the game.
* Injury update: TB Demetris Summers (ankle) is doubtful. Summers worked out sparingly on Tuesday and is still favoring his ankle, which was injured Sept. 11 against Georgia. WR Sidney Rice (hyperextended knee) is also doubtful. Rice did not participate in practice Tuesday. DT Darrell Shropshire (dislocated finger) did not practice but could be available for this Saturday’s game.
* Following Tuesday’s workout, head coach Lou Holtz met with the media. Here are some of his comments: “We had a physical practice. But, I’m not in the best of moods. Until our offensive line starts dominating people up front, we are not going to be the type of football team we need to be. It all starts with the offensive line. It wasn’t our finest hour today. It will be a physical game on Saturday. They (Troy) will run their big back and then hit you with the play action pass … I do not expect Demetris Summers to play Saturday. He really hasn’t been able to do anything. We were hoping to have him back. We will just have to move on and get those who are physically able to play ready to play. Dondrial (Pinkins) is fine physically right now. He was full go in practice today. I really think you need two quarterbacks in this league. I love the way Syvelle (Newton) relates to his teammates in the huddle. He is doing a nice job.”.
* Here are some comments from Demetris Summers: “I’ve been trying to get the ankle better. It’s still pretty gimpy. Hopefully, it will come around the next couple of days. It’s real sore when I cut or run on my toes. It’s frustrating. All I can do is keep rehabbing it.”
* It will be Parents’ Weekend on the USC campus. The game is a sellout.
