Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of South Carolina women’s swimming and diving team defeated the University of Miami Hurricanes today 202-98. The women won 13 of the 16 events.

The Gamecocks started the meet with a win in the 400 yard medley relay with the combination of Kasey Tamkun, Mandee Cregar, Christy Williams and Haley Skaggs. The women won with a time of 3:53.86. Tamkun also finished first in the 100 yard backstroke (58.22) and was apart of the 200 yard freestyle relay team that finished second with a time of 1:41.26, which is an NCAA “B” Standard, along with Heather Roffey, Amanda Sowell, and Kelli Hobbs. Finishing first in the 200 yard freestyle relay was the combination of Haley Skaggs, Alyssa Cady, Kelly Giese and Carolynn McHugh who made an NCAA “A” Standard with a time of 1:35.90. The women swept the top positions in the 100 yard butterfly with Christy Williams (55.98), Kendel Fiorentino (58.45) and Carolynn McHugh (58.73) rounding out the top three. Williams also finished first in the 200 IM (2:06.02) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.55). Freshman Heather Roffey claimed two top finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle(10:15.15) and the 200 yard butterfly (2:03.84). In the 200 yard breaststroke, Cregar and Fiorentino took first and second respectively. Junior Haley Skaggs took first place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.24 with senior Carolynn McHugh coming in third (53.17). Senior Lauren King continued her leadership in diving with a first place finish on the 1 meter board (297.30) and a second place finish on the three meter board (291.23).

The Gamecocks return to duel meet action on Saturday November 20 as they travel to Virginia to take on the Cavaliers.
