Nov. 29, 2004

Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina baseball program has announced the signing of 19 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the Nov. 10-17 early signing period. The class is highlighted by nine recruits from the state of South Carolina and includes 11 high school and eight junior college signees.

“Our current team has seven seniors and as many as 10 underclassmen that are possible draft picks next June so a large class was a necessity” said head coach Ray Tanner. “We hope this group turns out to be one of the very best in the nation. This will be determined by how many of them make it to campus in August and then by how well they perform on the field. We expect them to help continue our success in the SEC and nationally.”

Over the last five seasons South Carolina has won more games than any other Division I baseball team in the nation with 260 victories. South Carolina has made three consecutive trips to the College World Series (2002, 2003, 2004), won two SEC championships (2000, 2002) and earned a SEC Tournament title (2004). In addition, USC has also won five straight regionals and earned four SEC East titles in the last six years. The Gamecocks have also won more SEC games vs. SEC opponents than any conference team since the 2000 season.
