Marietta, Ga. – The Ohio State Buckeyes recorded three runs in the second inning to earn a 3-0 victory over South Carolina Saturday at the Buzz Classic in Marietta, Ga. USC recorded four hits off of Jamee Juarez (5-4). Melanie Henkes (6-3) took the loss and the Gamecocks fell to 13-8 on the season.

USC gave up three runs on six hits and allowed only one Buckeye player to record a multi-hit game. Liz Caputo went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Christina Douglas led off the inning with a single and Juarez followed with a double to drive in Douglas. With one out, Juarez then advanced to third on a bunt single by Brittany Vanderink and scored on a single by Caputo. Caputo was caught stealing to record the second out of the inning but the Buckeyes added their final run of the game when Vanderink was able to come home on the steal attempt.

USC would not give up any more runs for the remainder of the game and held the Buckeyes to just two hits but the damage had already been done. South Carolina had chances to score in the fifth when they had two runners on base with one out but Juarez struck out Whitney Wierzbicki and Jessica Josker grounded out to end the inning. USC went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings to end the game.

This marks the first win against the Gamecocks for the Buckeyes. South Carolina still leads the series 2-1.
