New York, N.Y. – South Carolina men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to New York, N.Y. on Wednesday evening for the 2005 NCAA East Regional Championship to take place on May 27-28 at Ichan Stadium on Randall’s Island.
The Gamecock women’s team, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, is coming off a SEC Outdoor Championship title win in Nashville, Tenn. two weeks ago, where they totaled 145.2 points with two relays wins and four individual titles. The team totaled 17 athletes who regionally qualified in 14 events for this weekend’s competition. The men’s team finished in an impressive ninth place at the SEC Championship and will have 12 athletes competing this weekend.
Other schools competing in the East Regional Championship include South Carolina’s Charleston Southern and Clemson, as well as SEC’s Florida. Florida State, Miami, and Virginia Tech will also be among the participants in the regional meet.
Competition for the Gamecocks is scheduled to kick-off on Friday at 3 p.m. with the women’s pole vault final, followed by the women’s 4x100m relay preliminary at 3:30 p.m. The first day of competition will conclude with the men’s and women’s 200m dash preliminaries at 7 and 7:15 p.m. For a complete meet schedule, click the link below.
