ORLANDO, Fla. – University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier leaves his trademark visor at home but brings his legendary swagger to Top Shelf Wednesdays, as he joins host Vince Cellini in the latest edition of The Golf Channel’s night of premium programming, teeing off Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

One of college football’s most outspoken coaches and an avid golfer, Spurrier rose to fame during his 12-year tenure at the University of Florida, where he guided the Gators to seven Southeastern Conference titles and one National Championship in 1996. After a brief detour through the National Football League, Spurrier returned to his college football roots, taking over the football program at the University of South Carolina. He’ll join Cellini via satellite from Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Ala., site of the Champions Tour’s Bruno’s Memorial Classic.

Throughout the evening Spurrier will blend discussion of his football coaching experiences with his thoughts on top golf courses, his favorite U.S. Open moment, his favorite golf memories and a Byron Nelson quote which he shares with his teams.

The program lineup for Spurrier’s Top Shelf Wednesday appearance includes highlights from Lee Janzen’s 1995 Kemper Open victory, Top 10 Individual Performances and Top 10 Fantastic Finishes before closing with a replay of The Grey Goose 19th Hole. Spurrier adds his thoughts on the Top 10 Individual Performances and Top 10 Fantastic Finishes for both golf and college football.

Top Shelf Wednesdays is a four-hour block of The Golf Channel’s premium programming, hosted by Vince Cellini from The Golf Channel studios. Each week Cellini is joined from a remote location by a celebrity or player co-host, and the two discuss myriad topics during breaks in programming.
