Columbia, S.C. – University of South Carolina center fielder Davy Gregg was drafted on Wednesday in the 27th round by the Chicago Cubs as the 820th pick overall in the 2005 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Gregg is the fifth Gamecock player chosen in this year’s draft.

Gregg batted .301 with one home run and 19 RBIs and stole 13-of-14 bases on the 2005 season. He started in 55 games of the 62 games that he played this season. As a junior, Gregg took over the center field position and played in 69 of 70 games with 65 starts. He batted .325 which was third best on the team with 11 doubles, one triple and had a team leading 14 stolen bases. Gregg appeared in 15 games as a freshman primarily as a pinch runner. He enrolled at Carolina in fall of 2001 and was red shirted in 2002.

Gregg, a native of Florence, S.C., still has his senior season of eligibility remaining.
