COLUMBIA, S.C.– Six University of South Carolina men’s golfers were named to the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday by Commissioner Mike Slive. The Gamecocks topped the complete list with 89 student-athletes.

All six South Carolina golfers eligible for the honor roll were named to it based on grades from the 2004 Summer, 2004 Fall and 2005 Spring terms. Golfers honored are seniors Alex Hamilton (Aiken, S.C.) and Jake Thompson (Greenville, S.C.); juniors Eirik Johansen (Stavanger, Norway), West Streib (Atlanta, Ga.), and Robert Svensson (Mjolby, Sweden); and redshirt freshman David Kite (Austin, Texas).

The men’s golf team posted the highest cumulative grade point average of any South Carolina men’s team with a team-record GPA of 3.558 during the spring semester. Its cumulative 3.513 GPA for the 2004-05 academic year was also the highest of any South Carolina men’s team.

Streib also collected an impressive pair of individual awards. He was chosen as the SEC’s Scholar Athlete of the Year and won the Dean’s Award for Undergraduate Achievement in USC’s Darla Moore School of Business.
