University of South Carolina running back Cory Boyd will remain suspended for the entire 2005 football season for violating athletic department policies, USC Athletics Director Eric Hyman announced today.
“Cory Boyd will remain with team and will practice with the team,” said head coach Steve Spurrier. “He will not report until school starts on August 18.”
Boyd, who is in good academic standing at the university, will be allowed to practice with the team, but will not dress for games or travel with the team during the suspension.
A junior from Orange, NJ, Boyd played in all 11 games in 2004, rushing 62 times for 309 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 35 passes for 347 yards and a touchdown.
The 2005 Gamecocks will report to fall camp on Monday, August 1 with the first practice scheduled for Tuesday, August 2 at 8 p.m.
