COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina golf team will welcome four freshmen to its roster this fall. In the coming weeks, USCsports.com will feature each of the freshmen. Today’s subject is Florian Fritsch, who joins the Gamecocks all the way from Wiesloch, Germany. To learn more about Fristch, read on…

Why did you choose to attend the University of South Carolina?
One reason is Puggy Blackmon. The other reason, is the fact that I think that I am not good enough for the tour yet. College gives me extra time to become good enough, while also giving me the resources. College provides me with an academic education as well, while I am striving for my goal in life.

How did you spend your summer?
Pretty much playing golf. That’s all I did. I had a lot of tournaments, and barely any time for other stuff. I played some tennis and soccer as well.

What are the biggest adjustments you expect to have to make in moving from the high school ranks to the college ranks?
I pretty much have to live on my own. I have to take care of things that I didn’t need to worry about in the past. Mom and Dad always took care of some stuff. Now I have to do it all by myself.

What is the best part of your golf game?
I would say my consistency and understanding of the game. I barely make mistakes. I barely have high scores, when I play poorly.

Who has had the biggest influence on your golf career thus far?
Mom and Dad.

What do you consider the biggest highlight of your golf career thus far?
Playing in the World Cup for Germany, being part of the German National Squad and representing Germany in all manners.
