TANAGURA, Japan – The South Carolina men’s golf team is in seventh place following the second round of the TOPY Cup in Tanagura, Japan. As a team, the Gamecocks shot a 306 on Wednesday to put them at +24 for the tournament, which is being played at Tanagura Country Club (Par 72/7,127 yards).

South Carolina is one of four collegiate men’s teams from the United States competing with seven Japanese men’s teams in the 23rd annual event. Georgia State, Michigan State and Pepperdine are also representing the U.S.

Senior Eirik Johansen (Stavanger, Norway) continues to lead USC. Johansen shot a 73 (+1) and remains in a tie for fourth place.

Redshirt freshman Patrick Cunning (Aiken, S.C.) carded a second-round 79 (+7) and sits tied for 25th. Sophomore Warren Thomas shaved seven strokes off his first round score by firing a 73 (+1). Thomas is tied for 31st.

Junior Robert Svensson (Mjolby, Sweden) is tied for 36th after shooting an 83, and sophomore Mark Anderson (Beaufort, S.C.) is tied for 53rd following a second-round score of 83 (+11).

Georgia State maintained its lead with a second-round team score of 301, but Japanese team Tohoku Fukushi moved up into a tie with the Panthers. Both teams are at +6 through the second day of play.

Pepperdine shot 295 on Wednesday and is in fourth on the leaderboard. Michigan State is two strokes behind the Waves in fifth place after shooting a 295 in the second round.

The final round of the TOPY Cup will be played on Thursday, Sept. 8.
