HICKORY, N.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf “B” team is the leader following the opening 18 holes of play on Monday at the Billy Joe Patton Intercollegiate , played at the Country Club of Hickory, N.C. (Par 72), and hosted by Lenoir Rhyne College. The Gamecocks fired an opening round 296 and hold a four-stroke lead over second-place Newberry College.

Redshirt sophomore David Kite paced the Gamecocks with a three-under par 69. Freshman Allen Koon carded a 70, freshman Mark Silvers shot a 71, and sophomore Warren Thomas and senior Robert Svensson rounded out the Carolina lineup with 76s.

The second and final round of the play is on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Eighteen holes will be played.
