WINDERMERE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team is in eighth place out of 18 teams following the first two rounds of play on Sunday at the UCF/Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, played at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Senior Eirik Johansen led the Gamecocks and sits in sixth place on the individual leaderboard.

USC shot a team-score of 294 in the first round and 298 in the second round. The Isleworth field includes 13 of the nation’s top 20 teams.

Johansen fired an opening round 69 and then followed with a two-over par 74 on the second 18 holes.

Freshman Florian Fritsch carded rounds of 69 and 78 and sits tied for 30th. Freshman Mark Silvers, playing in his first varsity collegiate event, is tied for 40th. Silvers shot 78 on the first 18, but bounced back to shoot a one-under par 72 in the second round.

Sophomore Mark Anderson opened with a 78 and went on to shoot 75 on the second 18. Anderson is in a tie for 58th place. Freshman Allen Koon rounded out the Carolina lineup in a tie for 81st after rounds of 81 and 78.

Wake Forest, which holds the team lead, and defending national champion Georgia, in second place, are the only two teams in the read.

The Isleworth Invitational was originally scheduled to run Sunday through Tuesday with 18 holes to be played each day, but due to expected inclement weather on Monday, 36 holes were played Sunday. After taking Monday off, the tournament is scheduled to conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday. Live scoring is available online at www.golfstat.com.
