ROCKY FACE, Ga. – The No. 12/16 South Carolina men’s golf team is tied for 10th following the first round of play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club (7,010 yards, Par 72). The Gamecocks shot a team score of 300 and are tied with Tennessee and Georgia Southern.
Freshman Florian Fritsch led Carolina in the first round and sits in a tie for 12th. Fritsch shot a 71 and is one-under par. Senior Eirik Johansen, who has three top-10 finishes this season, carded a 74 (+2) and is tied for 27th.
Freshman Mark Silvers fired a 76 (+4), good for a tie for 49th. Sophomore Mark Anderson is in a tie for 75th after an opening round 79 (+7). Freshman Baker Elmore struggled on Friday, shooting an 84 (+12).
Florida leads the field at six-under par (282) through 18 holes. Georgia’s Chris Kirk carded a 67 to open the tournament and sits at the top of the individual leaderboard. The Carpet Capital Collegiate field features nine of the nation’s top 25 teams. South Carolina is ranked No. 12 in the GCAA/Bridgestone poll and No. 16 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
