Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their weekend at the Aggie Invitational at Texas A&M on Sunday as both teams came away with fourth place finishes. The men’s team finished with 682.5 points and the women’s team 444 points. Sophomore Christy Williams had the best finish for Carolina on the final day taking first place in the 200 butterfly with a season best time of 1:59.71, also hitting U.S. Senior Nationals qualifying cut and just .30 off the school record she set last year. On the men’s side, Dan White and Kyle Cormier continued their stellar weekend with second places finishes in the 1650 freestyle and 200 butterfly respectively. Texas A&M won the Aggie Invitational as both their men’s and women’s team took home first place.
Williams also reached an “A” final in the 200 backstroke and had a sixth place finish at 2:02.00. Carolina had several swimmers reach the championship final of the events of the final day. Lindsey Tiberio was among the top swimmers in the 200 breaststroke at 2:22.21, good enough for seventh place. Along with his second place performance in the 1650 freestyle, Dan White also reached the finals of the 200 backstroke and finished 1:53.82 for sixth place. Sophomore Sean Murray joined White in the 200 back final and was eighth at 1:54.55. Senior men’s captain Justin Kata took home fourth place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.77.
To close out the evening, the USC men’ 400 freestyle relay team of Colby Mack, Reid Duff, Christian Robledo and Dan White took fourth place with a season best time of 3:08.61. The women’s 400 freestyle relay team of Williams, Diana Lopez, Kassy Kugler and Haley Skaggs took seventh place with a time of 3:27.96, the team’s fastest of the year.
