The University of Central Florida will not be on the South Carolina Gamecocks’ 2006 football schedule, USC Senior Associate Athletics Director Shawn Eichorst confirmed Monday.
According to Eichorst, there was a “misunderstanding” between officials at UCF and the previous athletic administration at South Carolina. Eichorst confirmed with UCF officials on Monday that the Golden Knights had overbooked their 2006 football schedule and were not planning on playing in Columbia on September 16. UCF has agreed to assist South Carolina in securing a mutually-agreed upon opponent to fill the open date.
“If we can agree on an opponent to fill the vacancy, we will not hold Central Florida to the $100,000 termination clause as dictated by the amended contract,” said Eichorst
The Gamecocks will have a 12-game regular season schedule in 2006. In addition to eight Southeastern Conference games, Carolina has non-conference games slated at home against Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee State and a road contest at Clemson.
