After two days of practicing in helmets and shorts, the South Carolina Gamecock football squad put full pads on for the first time this spring Wednesday afternoon. Highlighting the action was the running of Cory Boyd and Mike Davis in the “Oklahoma” drill and the move of Mike West to wide receiver.

Following the practice, Head Coach Steve Spurrier addressed the media:

“It was another pretty day so we had to come and practice. We tried to practice a little tackling today. It was so-so – not very good really. We have to learn how to tackle better as we go through the spring. “

On Mike West at wide receiver: “We’re just looking at him over there to see if he can help us. He will probably be back on defense in the next day or two. I don’t know where his best position is. It’s hard for him to learn everything today, but we’ll see.”

“Cory Boyd and Mike Davis are running very well. Mike looks a lot faster than he was last year and Cory’s in excellent shape. Those two guys are really running well right now and Bobby Wallace looks quicker than he’s been, so we’re in pretty good shape at tailback.”

The Gamecocks will take Thursday off, then resume practice on Friday afternoon. All practices are open to the public.
