COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kentucky’s Katie Campbell hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first to give the Wildcats all they would need to beat South Carolina 2-0 in the twinbill of the doubleheader Saturday. Jessica Trueblood (5-7, 1-4) held the Gamecocks to just two hits and struck out nine as she guided UK to its first conference win of the season.

Chrissy Schoonmaker and Jessica Josker accounted for USC’s two hits. Trueblood pitched a perfect game through 3.1 innings when Josker drew a walk. Trueblood surrendered the no-hitter in the fifth when Schoonmaker lobbed a single to left field.

Christie Hamilton (10-6, 0-3) is still searching for her first conference win as she struck out eight against Kentucky to record her 100th career strikeout. Hamilton gave up only four hits and after the third inning, threw four perfect innings. Despite the comeback in the circle from Hamilton, USC could not find its bats. After Schoonmaker shook up the no-hitter, Josker singled in the sixth to spark a rally but the Gamecocks came up short once again.

South Carolina is now 19-9 and 1-4 in the SEC, while Kentucky is 13-13 and 1-7 in the SEC. The series will conclude Sunday afternoon with the rubber game scheduled for 1 p.m. at Beckham Field.
