Columbia, S.C. – Fresh off a series victory at Auburn over the weekend, South Carolina baseball returns home for a six-game homestand beginning on Tuesday night (March 21) at Sarge Frye Field. Carolina hosts Charleston Southern (9-16) on Tuesday night with first pitch set for 7 p.m. and will take on Furman (11-7) on Wednesday, Mar. 22 with first pitch also 7 p.m. Live audio broadcast with Tommy Moody and live gametracker stats will be available at uscsports.com. The Gamecocks moved up to No. 7 in both the Baseball America Top 25 and the Collegiate Baseball Top 30. Carolina is 17-3 and 2-1 in the SEC heading into the week. USC will host Florida this weekend in the SEC home opener for the Gamecocks.

QUICK RECAP
South Carolina went 4-1 this past week with midweek wins over Davidson and Yale and taking two out of three games at Auburn in its SEC opening series … Carolina saw its eight-game winning streak snapped in Sunday’s game … Despite the loss Carolina is 17-3 on the year and 2-1 in conference play.

CISCO
Carolina freshman RHP Mike Cisco turned in the Gamecocks’ top performance on the mound this weekend hurling a career-high 7.1 innings in Saturday’s win over the Tigers … Cisco didn’t allow a run until the fifth inning and saw his scoreless inning streak end at 17.2 innings … He had a career-high eight strikeouts also in the victory … He is 2-0 on the year with a 1.29 ERA in 21 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts and just four walks … Opponents are battling only .132 against him this year.

PELZER
Sophomore RHP Wynn Pelzer also came on strong for the Gamecocks out of the bullpen in Friday’s win over Auburn … In relief, Pelzer did not allow a hit in three innings of work and struck out six batters to earn the victory … He is now 1-0 this year with a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched with 21 strikeouts and five walks … Pelzer joined five other USC pitchers in tying a USC single-game record for strikeouts with 18 vs. Auburn on Friday night.

HONEYCUTT
Sophomore RHP Harris Honeycutt earned his second straight win in Tuesday’s 9-2 win over Davidson … Honeycutt is now 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA and has 16 strikeouts and five walks in 10.1 innings pitched.

LITTLE MORE ON THE PITCHERS
The South Carolina pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.51 and 209 strikeouts to 54 walks in 183 innings pitched … Team’s are batting .189 against the Gamecock pitching staff this season.

GIESLER
Senior INF Neil Giesler continues to swing a hot bat as he extended his hitting streak to 13 games this past week … Giesler is hitting .472 this year (34-for-72) to lead the SEC in all games played … In 11 of 18 games played for Giesler, he has had a multi-hit game.

BROWN
Senior INF Chris Brown had a stellar week at the plate batting .526 (10-for-19) in five games with five RBI and seven runs scored … Brown was 4-for-5, tying his career-high in hits in the 7-3 win vs. the Tigers … He also had three this in Friday’s victory … Brown on the year is at .365 (19-for-52) with a team-high 20 runs scored. After one week of SEC action, Brown leads the conference in SEC games with hits (7) and runs scored (5) and batting average (.583).

HIT THAT BASEBALL
USC pounded out 31 combined hits in the wins over Auburn on Friday and Saturday … The 17 hit total in Friday’s win was the highest hit total for Carolina in a game this year … Brown had three hits and four runs in the Friday win with Trent Kline going 3-for-3 with two RBI and Michael Campbell finishing 3-for-6 with two RBI as well.
