South Carolina had two sprinters run Friday morning after Thursday nights rain-out at the USA Track and Field Championships. Friday evening USC will compete in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m and 400m. In addition, Chiquita Martin will run in the prelims of the 400m hurdles and Charleston’s Greig Cryer will compete in the long jump.
Rising junior Shalonda Solomon ran an 11.34 to finish third in her heat of the 100m to advance to tonight’s semi-finals with the ninth fastest time. Due to last night’s rain out, all three rounds of the 100m will be run Friday. The semi-finals will be run at 6:15 p and the finals will be run at 8:25 pm.
Senior Leroy Dixon ran a 10.39 in his prelim heat to finish sixth in his heat and 21st overall. He did not advance.
Former NCAA champion Miki Barber won her heat of the 100m to advance to the semi-finals at 11.37 with the fourth fastest time. The defending champion in the 100m, Barber’s twin, Lisa, did not run.
“I’m happy to win and represent for my sister who couldn’t be here,” said Barber. “I’m happy to be healthy. It’s been a two-year stint with three surgeries on my foot, so I’m just happy to be here.”
